Move Your Body
This is an abstract exploration of letterforms. I created "letters" by tying springs together with fishing line and bending them so they were under tension. I videotaped cutting this line with a blowtorch and then keyed out the springs and played the footage in reverse to show springs assembling themselves into my abstract letterforms.
To give these forms actual meaning, I timed the framerate of individual letters to coincide with morse code. The resulting sequence technically says "move your body." This is reference to the potenial and kinetic energy of the springs, and also fit with the song played over the video, "Liquor Lyles Cool July" by Atmosphere.
Building a DJ out of stills from the springs and the clapping hands embellish this abstract concept and further relate the morse code springs to the song that's used to present them.
